The cash option for tonight’s Mega Millions jackpot is about $46.6 million.
It has been a while since a Michigan player won a big Mega Millions jackpot. However, the last player from Michigan to win millions playing Mega Millions is David Smith, who on June 11, 2019, won a $3 million Mega Millions prize with a ticket he bought on MichiganLottery.com. Yet, the last ticket to win a Mega Millions jackpot was owned by a Port Huron couple, Ralph and Mary Stebbins. They won $208 million. That was on April 22, 2005. However, to this day, Stebbins’s jackpot holds the record for the largest Mega Millions prize ever won in Michigan.
Powerball
Still, a Michigan player could win Saturday’s $137 million jackpot. The cash option for Saturday’s jackpot is about $89.8 million. The biggest Powerball jackpot won by a Michigan player was on August 15, 2012. Donald Lawson, of Lapeer, won a $337 million Powerball jackpot. To this day Lawson’s jackpot holds the record for the largest lottery prize ever won in Michigan.
However, the last Michigan player to win the Powerball jackpot was Julie Leach, of Three Rivers. Leach won the game’s $310.5 million jackpot on September 30, 2015.
Time is running out to purchase tickets for both drawings. Lottery retailers throughout Michigan are selling Mega Millions tickets until 10:45 p.m. tonight. However, Powerball tickets may be purchased until 9:45 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets for both games may also be purchased online at MichiganLottery.com.
