A lucky Michigan Lottery player is sitting on an unclaimed Powerball prize that is worth a $1 million prize.
What saddens me is, not only do a few weeks remain before the winning ticket expires. But the winner might not even realize they own the winning ticket.
Whatever the case, if unclaimed before or on December 19, 2019, the winning ticket will expire. So, the person who bought it will be the unluckiest winner who misses out on a million dollars.
So, what happens to unclaimed Powerball prizes?
In Michigan, unclaimed Powerball prizes are forfeited to the School Aid Fund.
This ticket matched all five white-ball numbers drawn but the Power Ball number. The winning numbers on that fateful evening were 15, 29, 31, 37, and 43, therefore, winning the games second tiers prize of a $1 million.
The winning ticket was bought at the Marathon gas station at 27745 Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills. Michigan Lottery officials are urging people to check their tickets against the winning numbers to see if they are not the winner.
The $1 million winner should contact the Michigan Lottery Public Relations Division at (517) 373-1237 to schedule an appointment to collect the big prize. The prize must be claimed at the Lottery’s headquarters in Lansing. Tickets for Powerball are valid for one year from the drawing date.
