Powerball has found itself a jackpot winner. One lucky person from West Virginia will be able to claim the $136 million in either a lump sum or a 30-year annuity.
The jackpot will now reset back to $20 million. The next drawing will be Saturday if you would like to try your luck at the jackpot.
The Powerball winning numbers for the June 3 drawing were 1-3-26-41-64.
Powerball Number: 17
Power Play Number: 2x
Besides the jackpot, there were some other winners in other states that won some prizes. Powerball is offered to play in 44 states, Washington. D.C., Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
For Michigan, three ticket holders will be able to claim $200. Of all the prizes won in Michigan, this was the largest amount that was won.
There were 480,398 tickets that were sold that won at least $4 nationwide, and in Michigan, 15,024 of tickets sold won at least $4.
If you had won the Powerball or any prize over $5,000, Michigan Lottery is responsible by law for withholding estimated federal income tax and state taxes. The winner will then be responsible for anything that is missed at tax time.
Regardless of which option you decide if you win the jackpot, either the annuity or cash out, you are still responsible for the taxes. It is important to have this figured out before collecting your money.
To increase your odds of winning any of the prizes, you can simply buy some extra tickets. Obviously, some people may not be able to spend extra money on this strategy, but this is one way to better your chances.
Overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 25.
