A St. Clair County woman spit out her coffee in disbelief after she won $100,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s Super Gems instant game online.
You win a prize whenever five or more gems of the same color are touching vertically or horizontally. That cluster of gems is removed from the board and the player wins according to the prize table.
The overall odds of winning a Super Gems prize are 1 in 3.83. However, those odds of winning a prize and the number of winning tickets are established before sales even begin. Thus, the odds will change as tickets are purchased and prizes won.
Super Gems tickets may be purchased for $0.10, $0.20, $0.50, $1, $2, $5 or $10 per play. Nevertheless, the top prize is $100,000.
“I like to play online games during my break at work,” said the 69-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous. “Usually only bet $10, but I got an email offer that gave me a $10 bonus if I played $20, so I decided to do that.
“I had pretty good luck, and won $1, then $10, and then $160. I decided to bank $100 and use the $60 to play some more. On my third wager, I saw the screen flash and with a message that I had won $100,000 and I spit out my coffee!”
The player visited Lottery headquarters last Thursday to claim the big prize. She plans to save her winnings for a rainy day.
“Winning means I will have some breathing room financially, which is a great feeling,” said the player.
