2018-19 Michigan Lottery Excellence In Education Awards

excellence in education

The Michigan Lottery established the Excellence in Education awards in 2014 to recognize outstanding public-school educators across the state.

Each week, the Michigan Lottery will nominate outstanding educators and staff who go above and beyond the call of duty to make a positive change in the lives of children. Selected K-12 teachers will be awarded prizes that include a $1500 cash prize, $500 grant to the educator’s classroom, school or school district, and will be featured in a WXYZ broadcast.

So, the Michigan Lottery is encouraging parents, school staff members, students, and others to nominate these outstanding public-school educators for the 2018-19 Excellence in Education awards.

All public-school employees may be nominated for these awards. If you know an outstanding teacher, who fits this description, please fill out and submit the nomination form

An outstanding educator will be selected each week and will receive a $1,500 cash prize as well as a $500 grant to their classroom, school or school district. One of the weekly award winners will be selected to receive the Lottery’s Educator of the Year award and will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

Each winner also will receive a plaque and be featured in a news segment on the Lottery’s media partner stations WXYZ-TV in Detroit, FOX 17 in Grand Rapids, FOX 47 in Lansing, and WNEM-TV, Saginaw.

The winner of the Educator of the Year award for the 2017-18 school year was Kerri Moccio, a first-grade literacy intervention teacher at Bedford Elementary School in Dearborn Heights.  The school is part of the Dearborn Heights School District No. 7.
