One lucky Sterling Heights local recently claimed a large jackpot while playing the Powerball. The anonymous player purchased their ticket at a Meijer convenience store.
The jackpot has not changed much since only $1 million was claimed out of the total. Below you can see the current jackpot amount and how you could possibly win too.
Game Details
Current Estimated Jackpot: $37 million
Purchasing Options: Online and In-Store
Ticket Cost: $2.00
Drawing Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.
How to Play
Players start by selecting five white ball numbers ranging from one to 69. After that, you just select a single red Powerball number that ranges between one to 26. There is an option for the machine to select these for you in case you are indecisive.
Powerball has one additional feature that you can add to your ticket, known as the Power Play. For an additional dollar, you have the opportunity to earn more money from the draw.
Power Play takes your current winning prizes and then multiplies it by either 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X the amount. The 10X multiplier is excellent for lower winning prizes, as it only applies to prizes below the jackpot.
There are two options for payouts when it comes to jackpots. These can be set up as a 30-year annuity or take the prize in a lump sum of cash.
The 30-year option will be distributed evenly each year, which allows for fewer taxes. If you accept the cash up front, it is subject to more taxes and less money overall if you compare the two options.
Odds, Price, and Prizes
The overall odds of winning a single prize while playing the Powerball are one in 25. By purchasing another ticket, you can slightly increase your chances of winning. This could come in handy, especially since the jackpot has odds of one in 292,201,338.
Each ticket will cost a minimum of $2 each time you play, but adding Power Play adds another dollar. Purchasing more tickets helps your odds slightly but, of course, requires more capital.
The goal is to purchase tickets to help your odds without going over your budget. The prizes could eventually make up for the extra amount of tickets, but these will range from $2 all the way to the current jackpot.
