A Michigan Lottery $1 million Powerball ticket expired. So, the prize went to the state school aid fund.
Powerball tickets are valid for one year from the date of the drawing. So, this ticket expired at 4:45 pm, on Thursday, October 03, 2019. The winner had purchased the winning ticket at the Speedway gas station on 10070 Highland Road, Hartland in Livingston County. According to MI Lottery guidelines, expired ticket winnings, including shares from Powerball are forfeited to the Michigan State School Aid Fund.
But, if the deadline falls on a weekend or on a public holiday, winners have until the end of the next business day to claim the prize.
It was the third $1 million prize to go unclaimed in 2019 after $1 million Mega Millions prizes went unclaimed in March and earlier this month.
Someone set the record for an unclaimed Lottery prize in Michigan in 1998 when a $34 million prize went unclaimed. They purchased the winning Michigan Lotto game ticket at the Meijer on 1350 West Lake Lansing Road in East Lansing.
