Rochell Whitaker, an 82-year-old woman from Detroit is looking forward to sharing her new-found fortune with her loved ones. This after she won a $1 million prize playing one of Americas two biggest multi-jurisdictional lottery games, the Mega Millions.

Rochell is one of the eight nationwide winners in the Half a billion-dollar Mega Millions jackpot drawing held on July 24, 2018, who correctly matched the first five winning white ball numbers but not the Mega Ball number, to win Mega Millions second prize worth $1 million.

Per lottery tradition, I believe, the Dynasty Liquor store located at 8910 Puritan Street in Detroit, where Rochell bought her winning ticket, also received a symbolic bonus from the Michigan Lottery for selling the winning ticket.

Asked by the Michigan state lottery officials, how she found out about the win, a happy Rochell responded, “The morning after the drawing I was watching the news and they flashed the winning numbers on the screen. I remember thinking to myself: ‘I got this!’ Turns out, I was right!”
