David Welch of Roseville is the latest winner on The Big Spin show of the Michigan Lottery, winning $400,000 on the telecast hosted by former Detroit Piston great John Salley. The lucky winner was chosen to spin the wheel after entering codes for his non-winning The Big Spin tickets online.

Salley explained that he was “very excited” when the Michigan Lottery called him to tell him that he was chosen. It took a lot of losing tickets before he was selected, but he always had hope.

The 75-year-old Welch was one of the five players selected at random to appear on The Big Spin show after the second chance component of the game ended. The Lottery chose twenty players in total to participate in the Big Spin Show with a chance to win up to $2 million. All participants that spin the Big Spin wheel are guaranteed to go home with at least $100,000.

Welch says he came onto the Big Spin Show expecting to win $100,000, but was extremely happy and surprised when the wheel stopped on $400,000. With his winnings, he plans to make some home improvements and share the money with his family.

The Big Spin instant game costs $2 to play and gives players a chance to win instant prizes from $10 up to $1 million. The Big Spin game has paid players more than $14 million since launching in September 2022. Prizes totaling more than $56 million are still remaining in the Big Spin game, including two top prizes of $1 million, four $10,000 prizes, and 118 prizes of $1,000.

More than 110 in-store instant games are available from the Michigan Lottery, with top prizes ranging from $100 to $6 million. Nine of these games have top prizes of $4 million or higher, including $6,000,000 Jackpot, $3,000,000 Diamond Riches, Ultimate Millions, Extreme Cash, Millionaire Club, and Diamond 7s. Many of these games also offer the Jackpot Second Chance promotion by scanning non-winning tickets to enter the drawing.

Lottery players have won more than $1.7 billion to date playing instant games. Michigan Lottery instant games are available at any of the 10,500 retailers throughout the state.
