There is no shortage of customer-turned-thief in the retail realm, and the likelihood doubles when there is a lottery ticket involved. The Sheriff’s Office in Monroe County is investigating a theft report after a Michigan Lottery – Candy Cane Tripler game ticket pack worth $400 went missing.
This happened at the Marathon Gas Station in Newport last Tuesday night.
The booklet allegedly contained 200 new Candy Cane Tripler holiday-themed instant win game tickets. Each ticket has a retail value of $2. According to the sheriff’s report, the incident occurred sometime between 7:20 p.m. and 7:40 p.m.
The stolen Candy Cane Tripler case
Owners of the convenience store said an employee said a male customer came in and asked to buy some Tylenol. However, while the employee was distracted, looking for the Tylenol, the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed the sealed pack of Candy Cane Tripler game tickets. But, the employee didn’t realize the pack was missing until the customer had left the premises.
Still, the convenience store gave video surveillance footage to back up their version of the report. Something that will also help identify the suspect. However, they described the suspect as tall, bald-headed and a regular customer at the store. They also called Michigan Lottery to have the stolen tickets canceled in case the suspect attempted to cash the tickets.
