A man from Kent County spent a week carrying around his ticket before realizing he’d won a $199,407 jackpot playing Fantasy 5 from the Michigan Lottery.
Yandiel Cruz-Chavez of Wyoming matched all five numbers in the May 30th drawing: 08-20-29-33-39, to win the big jackpot. He purchased his ticket at Big Top Market, on Clyde Park Avenue Southwest in Wyoming.
Cruz-Chavez says he bought a Fantasy 5 ticket and forgot he was carrying it in his wallet until a week after the drawing. When finally checking his ticket at the store, he received a message to file a claim. He realized he’d won the jackpot after looking up the winning numbers online.
“Once it sunk in that I had really won, I was overcome with excitement and called everyone in my family to tell them the good news,” said the lucky player.
The 33-year-old player recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He plans to complete some home improvements and save the remainder of his winnings.
“The prize came at the perfect time and is a huge blessing to me and my family,” added Cruz-Chavez.
The Fantasy 5 draw game costs $1 per play. EZMatch can be added to each Fantasy 5 ticket for an additional $1, allowing players to win up to $500 instantly. Players can also add Double Play to each Fantasy 5 ticket for an extra $1, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing.
Fantasy 5 players must select five numbers from one to 39. Matching all five of the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn awards players a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 pm.
Fantasy 5 tickets can be purchased from any Lottery retailer across the state or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 pm every day for the current drawing.
The Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots give players a chance to win $747 million this weekend. The current Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $427 million for Saturday’s drawing, which would have a cash option of $221 million if someone wins.
Mega Millions has a jackpot of $320 million for tonight’s drawing. If there’s a winner, the cash option for the jackpot would be $167.7 million.
