An unclaimed prize of $1 million is waiting for a fortunate Michigan Lottery participant who won it in the Powerball drawing on Saturday evening. The winning ticket that hit the big prize was purchased through MichiganLottery.com and matched five correct numbers.
As of now, there have been no winners of the big jackpot from that draw. Therefore, the Powerball jackpot stands at $235 million for the scheduled drawing tonight. On February 12, 2020, Cristi Davis from Waterford was the most recent player from Michigan to win the Powerball jackpot, winning $70 million.
Another Michigan Lottery player recently took home a huge prize, which turned out to be well-timed. A Michigan-based man became an unexpected beneficiary of the Powerball lottery as he was enjoying some downtime at the beach. Kim Busscher purchased the ticket as he was leaving on vacation, and while lounging on the beach, he discovered that he had won $150,000.
At a gas station, as he was leaving for some R&R with his wife, Busscher matched four white balls in the Powerball from the February 25 drawing, which resulted in the surprise win. However, because he chose the Power Play, his prize grew to $150,000.
Busscher told the Michigan Lottery that he was lounging on the beach when he decided to check the numbers. He confirmed that he had the right ones, but had to have his wife verify them, just in case he looked at them incorrectly. The couple said they would donate some of the money and put most of it into savings.
The Power Play gives lottery players a chance to increase their prizes up to 10 times, depending on how much they pay. For $1 more, the prize increases by a random amount chosen before each drawing. However, it doesn’t apply to the jackpot prize. A Match 5 with a Power Play will always award $2 million, and the 10x multiplier is only available if the jackpot is $150 million or under.
The Powerball has draws three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, at 10:59 PM. Winners can contact lottery officials at 844-887-6836 or visit their closest office to claim their prize. The validity of Powerball tickets is one year from the date the draw takes place.
