A 44-year-old Port Huron man was shocked to find out he was the latest winner of $25,000 a year for life after playing the Michigan Lottery’s Lucky For Life game.

Brian Karnasiewicz matched all five white balls drawn in the May 14 drawing: 05-10-28-45-48, to win the major prize. He purchased the winning ticket at Spirits Shoppe, at 3550 Gratiot Avenue in Port Huron.

Karnasiewicz says he purchased a Lucky For Life ticket on the day of the drawing and checked the winning numbers later that night. He then started checking off the numbers individually and was excited when he matched four numbers to win $200.

After checking off the fifth number to win $25,000 a year for life, he was in shock and continued looking at the winning numbers and his ticket to make sure he was reading it right.

“I have been eager to cash my ticket, but I held onto it for a while so that I could properly plan for the money,” said the lucky winner. Karnasiewicz recently visited Lottery headquarters to claim his big prize.

He selected the one-time lump sum payment option of $390,000 instead of annual payments of $25,000 a year for 20 years or life, whichever is greater. He plans to buy a home and invest with his winnings.

Lucky For Life costs $2 per play and gives players a chance to win prizes from $3 up to a lifetime of cash. The top prize is $1,000 a day for life, which players can win by matching all five white balls from 1 to 48, and the Lucky Ball, which ranges from 1 to 18.

Matching all five winning numbers without the Lucky Ball will win players $25,000 a year for life. If two or more players win the top prize, it will be shared equally among the winners.

Lucky For Life drawings take place seven days a week at 10:38 pm. Ticket sales for the current drawing are available for purchase until 9:04 pm on the night of the drawing. Players can purchase tickets at Lottery retailers throughout Michigan and online at MichiganLottery.com.
