A lucky player from Saginaw thought she’d won $50,000 but later found out she won a $100,000 Powerball prize from the Michigan Lottery. Cheryl Marx successfully matched four white balls and the Powerball in the June 5 drawing to win $50,000 but purchased the Power Play option, which multiplied her winnings to $100,000. The winning numbers were 02-31-45-46-49, and the Powerball was 20.
The winning ticket was purchased at Tobacco & Liquor 1, at 7570 Gratiot Road in Saginaw. Marx says she likes to play Powerball and Mega Millions when the jackpot exceeds $100 million. She called the winning numbers hotline and wrote down the numbers, and when she looked at the ticket, she was thrilled with what she thought was a $50,000 prize.
Marx didn’t find out she was a $100,000 winner until she took the ticket to the Lottery office in Saginaw.
“I was so excited about winning that I forgot I added the Power Play to my ticket. I am still in disbelief that I won $100,000!”
The lucky winner recently claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters and plans to complete some home improvements and help her family with the winnings.
The last Powerball jackpot was won on April 19, with one player from Ohio winning the $252.6 million jackpot. The current Powerball jackpot is at more than $366 million.
Players can purchase Powerball tickets for $2 per play online at MichiganLottery.com or from Lottery retailers throughout the state. The Power Play option multiplies non-jackpot prizes up to 10x, up to a maximum of $2 million, and can be added to any Powerball ticket for $1. Players can also add the Double Play option for $1, giving them another opportunity to win as much as $10 million in the nightly Double Play drawing.
Powerball drawings take place on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 PM and can be seen live online at Powerball.com. Powerball is available to consumers in 45 states, Washington D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
The last time a player from Michigan won a Powerball jackpot was in February 2020. Cristy Davis of Waterford won the $70 million jackpot that month.
